You know that feeling you get when you can feel a relationship slipping away? It’s the quiet anguish that saturates your surroundings. The shredding last threads that you seize with an iron grip before your world is eviscerated and you’re left with nothing. New York-based indie rock outfit Roofers Union explores this feeling on Sea Legs off their just-released album, “The Mantle”.
“When love is dying, the ground can seem to move and shift like the ocean, and this can go on for some time,” says the band. “Having gotten used to walking on shaky surfaces, it can be difficult and surreal to find yourself walking on solid ground for the first time in a long time, with your legs still believing they are at sea.” Sea Legs mimics this experience as it builds from smooth jazz-inflected rock into crashing sounds like the world fragmenting and coming back together as one whole.
