Better On A Sunday is the new collaborative project from STS (a famed beat poet, rapper, and pimp) and Khari Mateen, both of whom are collaborators for The Roots. Ahead of the November 10 album release, the duo has shared a video for the albums title track which draws upon their parallel childhoods in Atlanta and musical coming of age in Philly. That American spirit and hard work where anything is possible and spending your precious surrounded by those you love. No matter what race, class, or profession, these are the struggles and simple joys that we share.
For all its simplicity, Better On A Sunday is unassumingly infectious. Like butter lapping in the crest of velvet while Mateen’s soulful voice croons through the hook and STS drops slick bars about the everyday hustle. These two are a dream team. Speaking on the video, STS says:
“What we envisioned for this video was to show your everyday person. We wanted the video to relate to people on a personal level, rather than some false narrative of every day being a party. In light of everything that’s going on in the country, and the world for that matter, we didn’t think people needed another song to dance to but rather, a song and video that can inspire, even if it just inspires you to make it through the week at your 9 to 5.”
