Psychedelic garage weirdos Brenda have been involved in the Toronto punk scene for a few years and formed the current 4-piece in 2015. Children is the first single from the band’s forthcoming EP, Creeper. A fitting name, considering the haunting, childlike vocals reminiscent of nightmarish ghostlike vapors. A voice that climbs the iron walls with guitars like the violent laughter from a hyena, and the petrified chug of drums with pulverizing limbs.
“’Children’ is about manipulation and the inevitability of growing up,” says the band. “On the surface level it could be a song about a friendship, or even a relationship, but on another level, the song is about childhood and what happens when people lose childlike innocence. Everyone, at some point, wants to escape the trappings of adulthood and run away to a place where it seems as if time doesn’t exist and age doesn’t matter. This song vacillates between these two states of being.”
Just in time for a certain Hollywood remake, Sarah Ann Watson brings Children to life in this horror-laden video. Creeper is due later this Fall.
