You might be familiar with Anna Wise from last year’s debut EP The Feminine: Act 1, or from her work with Kendrick Lamar on both Good kid, m.A.A.d city To Pimp a Butterfly. Now, the up and coming artist continues the celebration of womanhood with Coconuts, along with a self-directed video.
“Go for it you know when we’re together baby there’s nothing that we can’t do/ So ignore their disapproval let’s go for the free and novel me and you,” sings Wise over celestial synths weaving through deep percussion and a sax with a dusted weightlessness that travels through a vortex of hypnotic allure. In the video, Wise finds herself pulled from a beach and into an intense purple-hued room that features a cast of women dancing and leaning on one another in support.
Watch Coconuts below and look out on February 17 for The Feminine: Act II.
