Shashe (Emma Ratyal-Brooks) is a singer/song writer/producer from the town of Leeds in Northern England. Having grown up in a household that banned pop music, she would sneak in listens of the BBC’s Top of the Pops. When she entered university, she played in a nu-jazz group named Today’s Mathematics, and soon began performing under the name Emma Shaheen. She would later move to London and change her name to Shashe, highlighting her new production skills next to her soulful vocals.
Beloved is the second single from Shashe’s forthcoming debut EP titled Woven. “He calls me beloved/ I am here/ most valued prize,” she sings with grace to single piano notes. A wash of light instrumentation and delicate percussion enter with Shashe detailing her lover waiting for her by the river. “If I could show the world your worth/ I would display it for all to see,” – heartwarming and soulful, Beloved is divine.
Shashe’s debut EP, Woven, is due later this year.
