Following their debut single, “Play On”, Kent-based outfit PYX, curated by Wesley Triffitt, return with The Movies. Self-produced, recorded and mastered in Wesley’s hometown of Folkestone, it’s the first single from their untitled forthcoming debut album.
Slow burning and melancholic, The Movies captures the contrast between the image we present of ourselves and the private sphere along with its bitter regret. With a tincture of 90’s indie-rock and a psychedelic touch, it swells into a cinematic finale with your picture on the screen and in flames.
Of the track, Triffitt says:
The song is inspired by Manuel Puig‘s ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’, a book which is for me about the power of cinema, imagery and the imagination. I wanted to create a really dynamic and cinematic sound – especially towards the end with the strings. It’s an uplifting, heartbreaking story. Hopefully, the song crystallizes the essence of that juxtaposition and takes people on that journey.
