Oddnesse is a new-ish project from Rebeca Arango and producer Grey Goon and on their latest single, It Runs Wild, the LA-based duo stare deep into fear.
It Runs Wild is thick and ebbs within a dark dream-pop space with gleaming notes from beneath the falling floor while Arango seeks the light. With the single, Arango provided a poetic addition:
“I am very afraid. I avoid it. I’m afraid of what I don’t know. Even about myself. On the surface, thoughts run circles around each other kicking up dust. I find out there’s something sinister beneath. I’m afraid of what’s down there. I go hunting for it. I wake the beast. I run away. It’s coming for me whether I like it or not. And I can sense it even though I don’t know what it is.
I haven’t faced it yet.
I imagine “it runs wild” takes place in the house from House of Leaves.
A house is a piece of civilization. Your mind the next frontier to be civilized. With wild layers and inner workings that don’t make sense to the surface.
They say meditate long enough, the floor will fall out. You won’t be running around in the dark anymore. You will be the dark.
But that’s not really enough. I think you have to face the beast first. And you have to feel okay, just hanging there, in the dark.
I’m working on it.”
