One of my favourite recently discovered bands is Hamburg-based duo Kraków Loves Adana with their last two releases, False Alarm and Never Quite Right. Now, ahead of next month’s album, they’ve released the third single, Youth Unbroken.
Inspired by facing a once forgotten adolescence trauma, Singer Deniz Cicek sings about finally letting go of a past that no longer needs to be romanticized by a broken heart. “Turning the radio louder to drown the sorrow out/ Too much to talk about/ They say that youth will stay unbroken/ But I’m not so sure about that anymore,” sings Cicek with that magnetic voice of hers over a hopeful soundscape of gentle instrumentation. For the single, Cicek gave a brief note: “What I want to tell you with this piece is: Heal old wounds, make peace with your past – you are not broken.” As hard as it may feel at times, eventually you must.
