Jackson Fishauf is the Toronto-based artist behind the “Meanpop” band Meanlife. “Meanpop prioritizes melody, catchiness and a universal singsong quality as the delivery system for clever, candid lyrics which explore modern communication, dating, insecurities, and regrets,” explains Fishauf. “Themes given a sonic backbone by edgy, aggressive instrumentation, often in the form of distorted guitar and pianos.”
The duo has been toiling away at their forthcoming debut album titled “Bad Vibes In The Womb” which was recorded in a garage studio here in the city. Picture Shy is the first taste of the project and it chugs with the distorted chops of 90’s indie rock, playful keys, and Fishauf’s distinct vocals. While I sympathize with their hesitations to take photos of things in public because it’s obnoxious and yes you’re all terrible people, this probably cuts much deeper than that.
Joining the single is a video made by Meanlife and friends that documents the album’s recording sessions. Watch it below and look out for mean music in the near future.
Picture Shy is also available through Spotify, Bandcamp, and Soundcloud.
