After last year’s debut album, ‘The Grand Tour’, BATTS toured her home of Australia with the amazing Sharon Van Etten followed by a collaboration with the Melbourne Planetarium to create a Space visual experience for the album. The Melbourne-based artist now returns with City View.
Self-described as a love song full of wonky music, it’s inspired by witnessing some friends get married and starting families (gross) while others are still blacking out every weekend. And really, all you wanna do is chill and spend some time with your child free partner/lover/whatever you want to call them. City View is light and carefree with a breezy summer vibe, kind of like those lazy Sundays spent with that special someone and some cats while watching bad television and eating french toast.
Speaking on the single, BATTS says:
“It was/is a sad time in my life right now and I was writing a lot of sad songs. I just needed to write a song that felt nice for my partner and I that might just bring a little ole smile to his face and mine and I did that. I like playing it and I hope maybe it makes some other humans feel nice too. I also keep saying that it’s for all the people in their late 20’s to late 30’s going through those big life changes or definitely not ready to make them yet, most people probably fall into one of more of the categories in the verse.”
For those still going to SXSW, catch BATTS while you’re there.
