What began as a folk solo project by Bradley Ferguson five years ago has shifted into a trio with the help of vocalist Jessicka and now co-frontman Dustin Bentall. With their help, Hunting’s sophomore album, which sat in limbo, began to take shape again. “We went back and started the album from scratch,” Bradley remembers. “We decided to approach it in a more organic way. I had been editing it to pop perfection — but then we breathed new life into it and it came together really quickly.”
Gone is the wistful melancholy and replaced by a mature sonic exploration filled with joy. “I loved making that first album, but I’m not quite as melancholy as I was back then,” Bradley acknowledges. “I’m a lot more content and life is a lot more solid. I’m not constantly wandering around by myself after some terrible heartbreak.”
Ahead of their new album, “Whatever You Need”, the trio has shared a new video for their cover of Sparklehorse’s Gold Day. It’s bright and swooning with a driving rhythm section and is joined by a charming stop-motion video featuring a family of mice. Watch the Jessicka directed video here.
Hunting’s “Whatever You Need” is due out November 1 via Nevado Music.
