Coming off the success of his self-titled debut album, the multi-talented Pablo Nouvelle recently dropped his sophomore project, “Wired”. From it is I’m Not – an exploration of past, present, and future with steel coils that bubbles, stretch, and sink with uncertainty and a chilly trip-hop soundscape. With vocals from Lulu James, the duo lures you into something special.
Accompanying the single is a dope Andrea Schneider directed video. On both song and video, Nouvelle adds:
“Two years ago around Christmas, Lulu James stood on my doorstep and asked if I would produce some songs for her. We wrote a few tunes and Lulu in return rewarded me with some magical musical leftovers. ‘I’m Not’ is based on one of the vocal samples she left me with. My focus was on creating a mood that fits the mysterious attraction of the unknown described in Lulu James’ lyrics. Somehow mysterious, somehow menacing. To be lost yet embracing it as a part of the journey called life. The result, „I’m Not“ is in my eyes by far the most cinematic tune of the album, so obviously I was keen to wrap a visual world around it. Andrea Schneider, the director of the music video is a former co-student back from my time at the art school. Andrea developed a unique style in her animations which I admire a lot. So when we met at a short film festival where my latest film was presented this January, I spontaneously asked her if she would want to do a video for ‘I’m Not’. After spending two afternoons philosophising about accepting and living with uncertainties in ones’ life, Andrea locked herself up in her studio for almost two months and created this amazing oeuvre.”
