For her first release of the year, Miami’s Slow Shudder (Amanda Mayo) follows up Things To Forget with Diffuse. “It’s a love song I wrote about phase cancellation, which I used as a metaphor for the experience of a friendship with someone very similar to myself,” says Mayo, referencing the silence that results when two identical signals combine out of phase. “You were afraid to love me/ I guess I would’ve been too/ But I would let you love me,” she sings with a fragile wisp in this minimal and intimate atmosphere with layered vocals and strings that yearn for your touch. Like a needle that weaves through the dirt under your fingernails and sews your eyelids together while you dream of how the corners of her eyes wrinkled when she laughed.
