Portland – a city filled with quirks and wonders and lush mountains with deep earthy colours surrounded by the scenic Columbia River. It’s one of my top American cities to visit and the birthplace of the self-described “glam punk” band Fire Nuns. Ahead of tomorrow’s Neither The Nor Thee EP, the boys bring us the first taste with King Fling.
“Fuckboy” seems to have entered our lexicon during 2015, and on King Fling, Fire Nuns take a stance from a hypothetical fuckboy’s point of view. Amongst a fray of abrasive yet bouncy instrumentation, King Fling sounds like it came straight from the 70’s but with a modern twist. “I don’t date/ Cuz I can’t relate with anyone/ From my past/ I’m a sociopath,” howls lead singer Hadrian Kindt over Sam Matson’s frantic guitar that wails with anxiety riddled jitters. Bassist Zach Retlz and drummer Steven Cady level out the tension with heavy grooves of power-pop that make it impossible to not thrash around your room.
Hit play on King Fling tomorrow and look for Neither The Nor Thee EP tomorrow, available on cassette and digital download through Convent Recordings.
