Following the success of I Don’t Care, Oslo-based Simen Mitlid returns with Competition – the fourth single from his forthcoming album.
Mitlid begins with that gentle voice of his and a finger-plucked guitar that is soon joined by a soft drum pad until a sweet flourish of analog synths and harmonies strike. Competition subsides for a brief moment of repose and gradually builds into a fantastic bed of folk-inflected pop. “You’re still on my mind,” he repeats with the warm breath of spiralling guitars and an emphatic climax of ashen memories and the pungent taste her face leaves on your tongue and behind your eyes.
